Being a college student I have a pretty busy schedule, but I occasionally like to escape from the realities of schoolwork and delve into puzzle books. (They are fun, yet intend to be challenging) The problem arises when I find myself with Goldilock Syndrome, some are too easy while others are just too hard. After years of helping to develop rockets for NASA space programs, Pat Battaglia went from rocket scientist to author of playful word games. He has since written four books of brain games that are definitely not rocket science!

As a youngster, Battaglia began collecting word games that were particularly clever and fun to solve. His enthusiasm  continued throughout his professional career. He would quiz his friends with games and found that the fun was contagious.

In 1976 Battaglia published If You're So Smart…, a book of his collected games.

After discovering the popularity of his collected games, Battaglia began to devise games himself. He launched his If You're So Smart… newspaper column that has been in syndication for over 20 years.

His second book, So You Think You're Smart, was published in 1988. It consists of a variety of word and visual brain teasers. The book became an immediate best seller for TAB/McGraw-Hill and is now in its 17th printing.

That success led Battaglia to write his third book of lighthearted challenges, Are You Smart, or What? It includes a wide variety of word games with surprising answers and amusing features. The book is endorsed by comedian Bill Cosby.

If You're So Smart, Prove It! is Battaglia's latest book of word games. The answers are basic, yet often elude readers. When finally discovered, readers will wonder how they could possibly have overlooked the obvious. The games were devised to provide mental exercise and loads of fun for readers both young and old.

Battaglia, known as "Dr. Fun" in his rocket scientist costume, visits schools with his interactive Word Fun Presentations to turn kids on to words. He challenges children with his word games and makes learning fun for them. He talks about the power of words and encourages them to improve their thinking and communication skills. He also visits retirement homes and gets residents thinking and having fun playing word games.

In addition, Battaglia is the co-author of a brand new concept in puzzles.
