If You're So Smart...
Back in 1976, Pat Battaglia published the very first book
of word games of his three-book series. It’s entitled
IF YOU’RE SO SMART…. Five thousand
copies were printed. Almost all were sold. The few that remained
got put aside and basically forgotten. Since then, Battaglia
has had two more books published: the ever popular and his latest, , endorsed by Bill Cosby.
Now, 27 years later, the remaining books have surfaced. There
are 64 of them.
The found books have all the excitement of a discovered
time capsule. The books have the look and feel of the 1970’s.
As with any authentically rare item, the books show signs of
aging. The covers are printed in one color (brown) on plain
yellow card stock. It’s definitely a retro look of days gone
by. Some covers look a bit faded, but they're not. It's just the
imperfections of the printing process back then. Even the computer
punch card illustration on the cover recalls memories of the
bygone era of computer key-punching. The book is a nostalgic
blast into the past. A collector’s item like none other.
